Cherry Cordials (Redux)

Since I needed more than 3 1/2 dozen of these lovelies, I took Dave's advice and tried them with milk chocolate chips.

When Dave tried them, he exclaimed, "That's it!  You never have to buy me cherry cordial candies again.  Just make me these cookies."  I liked this statement because it suggests I ever bought him cherry cordials at all, let alone on a regular basis.

Here's the updated ingredient list.

1 package Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
1 package sugar free cherry gelatin
1 stick of butter, softened (not melted)
1 egg
1 cup milk chocolate chips

For the full recipe description, refer to the Cherry Cordial post.

  1. Mmmm - I wonder if this would go over better than the cookie recipe I recently used calling for dried cherries?

  5. Does it have to be "sugar free" gelatin?

  8. Looking forward to trying this one.
I can see why you would want sugar free gelatin -since it is prepackaged dough, it's already sweet enough.
I love the idea of dipping them in chocolate as well.
Might have to bake these sooner rather than later.

  10. earlgreytea318 ~ I ask because many of the sweeteners that they use in "sugar free" makes me very ill. Sugar-free usually means sugar substituted, not that it isn't sweetened.

  11. I really love your inventiveness with this recipe. I also bought some of the Betty Crocker Cookie Mixes and I am going to be doing one of my articles on them.

I would love you to post a few of your cookie recipes on my blog called "Cooking Up A Storm All Over The World!"

  12. Thanks for all the great feedback. I have considered using drink flavorings, like kool aid or crystal light. I haven't done it yet, but check out the Soft Lemonade cookies where I talk about it to fix a broken cookie recipe.

I can see how some things don't work for everyone and you should certain adapt a recipe if ingredients are going to cause you discomfort or you are sensitive to them. Having said that, if you check out the original Cherry Cordial recipe, I mentioned that I like to use the sugar free because I don't want to alter the consistency of the dough by adding additional sugar; I just want to change the flavor.

    Happy Baking!

  13. How about using pecans instead of the chocolate chips?

  14. If you use pecans, then it would'nt be a cherry cordial cookie, but the idea is intriguing, I love pecans.

  15. I tried baking them this morning and 8 minutes was too short a time for baking. the middles came out raw. I increased the time to 11 minutes and that worked much better.

  16. Woohoo I cant wait to try these! I'm sure Pecans would be fine...but then it woulden't be a cherry cordial :)

  17. I have made these following the recipe and they are wonderful. Then I made them again tonight and used strawberry jello for a chocolate covered strawberry taste. they are great as well. I did have to increase the baking time a little, from 8 to 9 min. I love your recipe, love the cherry cordial cookies.

  18. Can anyone tell me what size package of sugar free jello to use?

  19. Hi Ashley--it's the smaller sized box. I'm not sure if it's 1 ounce or what, but my store only carries the one size, so I didn't pay attention to the actual size. Hope tht helps!
