Mini Crescent Dog Wreath

Are you busy this week?  Yeah, I thought so.  Me, too.  Lot of parties and events to go to?  Always.  Need to make something to take to said parties?  Of course you do because you are a good party guest.  Want to make it easier on yourself?  Yeah, I figured.  How about an adorable, festive, tasty, two-ingredient appetizer garnished with easy veggies and served with your condiment of choice?  You're welcome because everyone loves crescent dogs, and this is simple to make and so adorable that people will think you spent way more time that you did.  In less than 10 minutes, you can have this assembled, let it bake for another 12 minutes while you freshen your make-up and in less than a half hour total, you're out the door and on your way to enjoy your friend's party with a appetizer that everyone will love.

I picked this up from the Hillshire Farms website as something simple, fun and different to take to a Christmas party last weekend.  The recipe suggested just doing one ring, but I doubled it up for more servings and to use up the whole package of mini hot dogs.  And instead of serving with the suggested cranberry BBQ sauce, I served it with the sweet champagne mustard I received a few month's back in a Foodie Pen Pal package.  My "holly" garnish was made out of sliced green peppers and grape tomatoes and I used reduced fat crescent rolls and turkey lit'l smokies, but you can swap out your favorites.  This seriously took no time at all and was a hit on the buffet.  It would be perfect for a gathering including little kids as well or an heavy appetizer party.  Whenever you make, you'll get lots of praise for not a lot of work.

Mini Crescent Dog Wreath

Ingredients

1 14 ounce package lit'l' smokies
2 8 ounce packages crescent roll dough
green pepper and grape tomatoes for garnish (not pictured)
mustard or condiment of choice for serving (not pictured)

Line a baking pan with parchment paper.

Unroll crescent dough onto a cutting board, pressing seams together. (Note: I worked with 2 triangles at a time, making a large rectangle.)  Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, slice dough into 5 long, thin strips.

Wrap dough around lit'l smokies, taking care to pinch and seal the edge.

Continue wrapping and arrange wrapped dogs in a circle on the baking sheet, making two concentric circles.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 12-15 minutes.

Remove from oven, let cool a few minutes, then carefully transfer to a platter by holding the edge of the parchment paper as a handle in one hand and sliding a large spatula under the parchment with the other hand.  Guide the wreath to the platter and gently slide the wreath off the parchment and onto the platter, jiggling the parchment from underneath the wreath.

Garnish with pepper and tomatoes using toothpicks to secure. Place preferred condiment in the center for serving.

Makes 1 wreath with 16 servings.
